Advances in Audio Visual Technology

The audio-visual industry is constantly moving and changing. New technologies can enter the fray, make massive changes, and then be eclipsed by even newer technologies years down the road. That is why it is so important to stay on top of the latest changes.

This article will look at some of these changes. It, several significant advances in audio-visual technology will be explored.

What Is Audio-Visual Technology?

Audio-visual technology is a wide field that includes a lot of different tech. Essentially, it includes everything that deals with transmitting and playing either audio and/or visual content. So, not surprisingly, it includes everything audio and everything visual.

Also unsurprisingly, this includes things you would normally think of, like screens and speakers. On the more surprising side, it also includes things like lighting, which is often a key component of many different visually-based performances.

Nowadays, most people come into everyday contact with AV technologies through their computers and phones. These all need to display an array of visuals and sound.

Significant Advances in Audio-Visual Technology

While a number of significant advantages have occurred in audio-visual technology, some are more significant than others. These include advances in VR and AR, video calling, digital events, and AI.

VR and AR

Both the virtual reality and augmented reality spheres are growing significantly. In fact, the VR headset market is set to grow to reach $39.6 billion by 2029. More and more people are interested in and gaining access to these types of technologies.

This is in large part due to the advances being made behind these technologies. Years ago, they were more expensive, more difficult to use, and generally less enjoyable. However, recently, prices have gone down, the headsets are less cumbersome, and the experiences within them have become more diverse and more engaging.

Right now, these experiences are mostly popular within the world of video games. However, this is set to change in the future. Apple’s new Vision Pro is set to significantly change the AR world by allowing for new levels of interaction with the world around them. Meanwhile, digital media companies are creating ways for users to experience media “together” while both parties are wearing VR headsets.

Video Calls

The pandemic shifted society in ways that are still being felt today. The move to remote work, remote learning, and even remote socializing put a massive emphasis on high-quality video calls. While in-person meetings are more possible now, the need for these video calls has not gone away.

This has led to improvements in all aspects of video calling. Years ago, calls were relatively limited when it came to the number of participants and were generally lower quality. Now, video conferencing is a daily occurrence for many and calls can take place without interruption.

A big part of this comes from the companies that make these calls possible. Investment into the infrastructure behind the calls allows them to be better than ever before. In addition, video software companies are constantly looking for an edge over their competition. This leads to the introduction and integration of tons of helpful, new features.

However, part of the improvement in video calls comes from the technology possessed by individuals. High-quality cameras are more common than ever, with many workplaces and schools either providing or requiring them. In addition, the requirements placed on computers are greater as well. All of this has generally improved the video-calling experience in every aspect.

Digital Events

Like the rise of video calling, the rise of digital events comes as a result of the distancing placed on the world during the pandemic. During this time, people realized that digital events are incredibly convenient and very popular. Thus, they have stuck around and are continuing to improve today.

These events come in all shapes and forms. Companies will host digital events where their employees can have fun or learn something. It might sound a little odd that people are interested in attending virtual concerts but one concert had more than 27.7 million unique attendees. Movie stars, CEOs, and even politicians have used digital events as a way to promote their latest projects. All of this comes with the knowledge that we have only seen a fraction of what digital events can do.

Digital events are a unique element in the audio-visual space because they can use other audio-visual technologies. Using a VR headset allows you to feel like you’re really in a digital event, rather than watching it on a screen. Because of this, these technologies end up improving each other.

Artificial Intelligence

If there is one thing that has revolutionized nearly every industry in recent years, it is AI. AI seems to be everywhere. It is used in all kinds of tech and appears in articles daily. However, this is just because AI is downright useful and is the powerhorse of modern computing.

One way in which this happens is in the planning stages of setting up a space. The power of artificial intelligence can be used to provide an in-depth analysis of a room. This can then be used to determine an optimal layout for the room that takes things like acoustics, seating, and other factors into account. In a similar way, it can help determine what kind of smart lighting is necessary to properly illuminate a space.

AI can also push AV tech further. In this way, it can be like strapping a rocket to a racecar, blasting it forward at new speeds. For example, AI technologies are already being used in some video calling applications as a way to fine-tune the videos or provide those silly filters you’ve probably seen. AI also has the potential to do things like improve video resolution, adjust audio quality, and even automatically alter things like video walls for better viewing.

Changes brought on by AI are likely to continue as artificial intelligence technologies grow more and more advanced.

Biggest Advances in Audio-Visual Technology

The biggest advances in audio-visual technology are coming from all corners of the industry but are still related to one another. All of them focus on improved ways for people to interact with each other, whether that is through a video call or by attending a digital event with a VR headset. With these trends present, it will continue to be interesting to watch where the industry will go from here.
